Group Presentations Blog

(Happiness: Self-Care & Good eating, Paying it Forward, What it does for society)

Group #1: Group 1 discussed happiness and what it does for society. They were assigned chapters 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8. They mentioned how happiness can have a positive impact and negative impact in several different ways. The four subtopics were, what happiness does for society from a health standpoint, what happiness does for the economy, what happiness does for society from a social point, and how happiness in education affects the society. I liked how this group included many videos and really liked the questions they asked the audience at the end. They really tried to engage with the audience and I thought it was nice to see everyone share some personal experiences. It was lovely to see everyone talking freely. They also had a lot of evidence and reasoning to back themselves up and it was very interesting to see the statistics as well. In the end, group 1 did an amazing job of explaining and I enjoyed this presentation for many reasons.

Group #2: Group 2 spoke about "paying it forward" and how it can make us happier. They were assigned chapters 5, 15, 16, and 17. The phrase "paying it forward" is defined as an a concept where one person does a good deed or helps someone in need, without expecting anything in return. Instead, the recipient of the good deed is encouraged to do something kind for someone else, creating a chain reaction of kindness. For example, if someone pays for another person's coffee at a cafe, that person may be inspired to pay for someone else's meal later in the day. This creates a positive ripple effect, where a single act of kindness can spread and touch many lives. Until this presentation I had no idea of this term but now I'm glad I know. In summary, paying it forward can lead to increased happiness by providing us with a sense of purpose, connection with others, and a feeling of satisfaction in knowing that we have made a positive impact on someone else's life. Anyways, this group did a very good job of presenting this topic and I can say that I learned a lot about this presentation and about "paying it forward". This group did very well in terms of discussing how paying it forward has a big impact on happiness. I also liked how they included the definitions in the beginning of their presentation and also enjoyed the interview they had. This group also included funny tiktok's in between the presentation which I thought was really fun and was a great way to show an example of what they were talking about. I really enjoyed and took in a lot of this presentation.

What does "pay it forward" mean?

Group #3: My group and I discussed how self-care and good eating leads to happiness. We were assigned chapters 4, 11, 12, 13, and 14. In our presentation we tried to explain and teach all the different forms of self-care and how prioritizing ourselves leads to happiness. Self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness. Self-care is important because it helps us maintain our physical, emotional, and metal well-being. When we take care of ourselves it boosts our mood, reduces stress, improves physical health, increases self-awareness, and enhances relationships. We also discussed how quality time and being with others helps us recharge and connect with others as well as how resting is extremely important and is a form of self-care also. I included statistics about insufficient sleep by race and ethnicity that does to show the amount of sleep different races get which I thought was pretty interesting to share. Eating healthy and having good nutrition is also very important too as food is fuel for our bodies. What we put into our bodies matters. We included an interview with Beizaida Garcia Rodriguez who is a dietitian. She answered many of our questions from a professional post of view and I hope that the classroom learned something from this interview. Hobbies and relaxation is also a big part of self-care is a beneficial part of our self-care routine. Having hobbies that you enjoy doing can build self-esteem and make life more fun. We also tried to link our chapters to our subtopics to the best we could as the chapters we were assigned were very different to what we were presenting. For example, the chapter I was assigned was chapter 4 which talked about verbal messages and I tried to connect that with how in order to have quality time with others we need language. It would be impossible to connect with other and express our feelings and thoughts with them without the power of language. Also, quality time is one of the five love languages and it refers to showing love and affection by spending dedicated time together. We also included a ted talk about self-love and how we can learn to love ourselves and care for ourselves. Self-love is the best love!

In conclusion, I really enjoyed every group's presentation and it was nice discovering the vast meanings of "happiness". I look forward to seeing even greater presentations in the future!
